1934 - 2023

My name is Evelyn Ann Dunn Sanderson, and I was born Oct. 3, 1934, in rural Dallas County on Polley Road. My parents were Walter and Gracie Polley Dunn. Three sisters, Margie, Mamie and Mary Lee and one brother, Walter Ray (Sonny). First, I am a Christian baptized in the First Baptist Church in Mesquite. I was married to Billy Joe Sanderson on Aug. 4, 1953, in Vacaville, California. We had 54 wonderful years together. I was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling with friends and family and thoroughly loved listening to music. I have one beautiful daughter, Sandra Kay, and one adopted son, Tommy Begay Sanderson, a Navajo Indian. We lived in Zipp City until we moved to Lake Tawakoni in 1983. Bill passed away on Sept. 23, 2007, at home. I continued to live alone with my precious dogs Gracie and Pheobe, until I found out I had cancer and had many surgeries. Sandra has been with me through all of this, and God was always with me. I want to thank Dan and Karen for all of their help. So many blessings I had. Thanks to my Bradshaw and Polley families. I love all of them dearly. My hopes and prayers for Sandra is she be happy and keep her trust in God. She is my hero and I love her more than she will ever know. Through all of my sickness, she never left me. That took courage. I love you with all of my heart and will always be with you.

My thanks to doctors and nurses, Dr. Guce, Dr. Chung and Dr. Bell and my wonderful nurses Jennifer and many others. You were so special. Don’t mourn for me. I am going to meet Jesus and I will be happy. I want all of you to be happy as well. Survived by Sandra Kay, Tommy, Fergie, Shawn and many friends and some relatives. These are my words written by me alone. May you always feel my love around you.

A celebration of life for Evelyn was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery. Evelyn passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at her home.
