A Celebration of Life service for Ruth “Oleta” Edwards, 94, was held, May 9, 2022, at Eubank Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating.

Pallbearers were Wesley Turner, Noah Baxter Wielan Baxter, Roy Williams, Andrew Williams and Johnathan Isch. Honorary pallbearers were Freddie Shaw, Brian Shaw, Kyle Shaw, Wesley Isch, Bobby Edwards, “Bud” Mallar, Jimmie Mertz and Ronnie Daniels.

Oleta went home to the Lord on May 5, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on July 8, 1927, in Emory to Burnett Benjamin Curtis and Zora Elizabeth Yates Curtis.

Oleta grew up in Myrtle Springs and attended Missionary Baptist Church, a church that her grandmother help establish around 1898. After she married, she attended Wallace Methodist Church and she was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Canton. Oleta married her true love, Elisha Fayne Edwards, on Dec. 12, 1944, and the couple had 62 beautiful years together at his passing. She was a devoted farmer’s wife and mother. Oleta worked in the Wills Point High School lunchroom, was a salesclerk in Dallas, worked at J. B White and Fairway Shoes in Wills Point before retiring. She was a quilter, and during World War II she was involved with The Sewing Room in Wills Point, sewing uniforms for soldiers. Oleta had a great sense of humor and always had the best quotes to pass on to family and friends. She dearly loved her family and will live on in the memories of all that knew and loved her.

“God knew what he was doing when he gave us daughters; those daughters gave us our sons,”-Oleta Edwards.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Burnett and Zora Curtis; beloved husband, Fayne Edwards; brother, Bobby Curtis and sister, Shirley Curtis Shaw. Oleta is survived by her daughters, Barbara and Roy Williams; Anita and Wesley Turner, Kathy and Bud Mallar; Patty Latrece and Wesley Isch; grandchildren, Cindy Baxter; Jodie and Nathan Ferguson; Bonnie Turner; Christi Peinado, Andrew Williams, Krista and Tyler Lavertu, Johnathan and Charissa Isch; great grandchildren, Noah Baxter; Weilan Baxter; Eva Ferguson; Emilyn Peinado and D. J. Peinado and Kira Isch; sisters-in-law, Ann Waites; Johnnita Curtis; Doris Brown and Patsy Plumlee; brother in-laws, Freddy Shaw and Bobby Edwards along with several cousins and many nieces and nephews and friends. Interment was in Haven of Memories Cemetery.
