The Texas Tennis Coaches Association recently announced that recent Wills Point ISD grad Jacob Daniell has been awarded the $500 Steve Buck Scholarship. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, a student-athlete must have a parent who coaches tennis, and is a member of the TTCA.

District 14-4A play was highly competitive in 2022 with five out of six teams battling down to the wire for a spot in this year’s playoffs. Mabank would ultimately finish district play in first overall at 10-0, followed by Canton at 8-2, Brownsboro at 6-4, Athens at 4-7, Van at 3-7 and Wills Point at 0-10.

Why would I think Mr. Busheytail is the perfect game animal? The reasons are many; squirrels are very challenging to hunt and pursuing them greatly increases one’s hunting knowledge; they will teach you to become a better hunter! Squirrels are also plentiful across much of the state and finding a place to hunt them is usually easy. Finding a farmer or rancher receptive to allowing you to hunt deer can be challenging but the same folks will often open their gates to squirrel hunters. The fact that squirrels are excellent in a pot of dumplings or served with cream gravy and biscuits adds much to a squirrel hunt albeit fewer and fewer people today are aware of just how tasty squirrel meat can be.

Emma Pearson was joined by family, friends, classmates and coaches as she signed her letter of intent to run collegiately at East Texas Baptist University last week..

Standout student-athlete Grayce Malone continued the growing legacy of Wills Point tennis players that will compete in the college ranks beginning in the fall after signing her letter of intent May 11. Malone, who recently earned a silver at the State Tennis Tournament, committed to ETBU.
